The City of Greensboro will activate its full emergency snow and ice response plan at 11 pm on Saturday, January 17, in advance of the National Weather Service's forecast of frozen precipitation during the day Sunday.
The City's winter weather preparations began at 4 am today and should be completed by 3 pm. The measures include pre-treating elevated bridges and overpasses, 531 miles of roadway, City facilities, and crosswalks and accessibility ramps in the Central Business District. In addition, crews are mounting select City trucks with snow-removal equipment and identifying construction road plates along snow-removal routes.
Beginning Saturday night, select City staff from the Transportation, Parks & Recreation, Water Resources, and Solid Waste & Recycling departments will begin 24-hour operations and work toward the following service-level targets:
