Audit and Management Committee of the Land Slide Mitigation Project Convenes at DMC

The Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) participated the Audit and Management Committee (AMC) meeting of the Reduction of Landslide Vulnerability by Mitigation Measures (RLVMM) project, yesterday (26 September) at the Disaster Management Center (DMC).

The RLVMM Project is executed by the Ministry of Defence and implemented by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), with financing provided by the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and a loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

The Defence Secretary reviewed the progress of the project milestones and highlighted the importance of landslide mitigation in protecting vulnerable communities and essential infrastructure in the country. He advised all relevant stakeholders to expedite implementation to ensure timely delivery of critical interventions.

NBRO's Director General, Eng. (Dr.) Asiri Karunawardana and the Project Director Mr. Virajh Dias, providing a comprehensive overview of the project progress, outlined the key challenges encountered during the implementation of the project.

Senior officials connected with the project also made presentations and gave insights into the progress of the project. Discussions were centered around the progress and forecasts, execution of the action plan, financial allocations and utilization, identification of priority vulnerable sites, the project's results framework, community awareness programs, etc.

Senior officials from the Defence Ministry, NBRO, and the Disaster Management Division were present at the occasion.
