ATF and Union County Sheriff’s Office intercept methamphetamine shipment

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, partnering with the Union County Sheriff's Office, seized over 100 kilograms of methamphetamine believed to have been transported into the area from a Mexican drug trafficking organization. This seizure is one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in the history of the state.

ATF special agents received information regarding a large shipment of narcotics being transported into Union County and, working with the Union County Sheriff's Department, identified the transport vehicles and coordinated the arrests of drug couriers traveling through the county this week.

"Had this amount of methamphetamine made it to the streets of our communities, the impact would have been absolutely devastating," said ATF Special Agent in Charge Alicia Jones. "Add to that the violence that accompanies drug trafficking, and you have the recipe for additional tragedy and loss. We applaud our special agents and our law enforcement partners in their diehard efforts to break up these dangerous trafficking networks."

The investigation is still on-going.
