A new era for golf in Perth's north is underway, with a sod-turning ceremony today marking the start of a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of Carramar Golf Course.
Mayor Linda Aitken, Deputy Mayor Paul Miles and CEO Bill Parker joined representatives from Belgravia Leisure WA, which manages the course on behalf of the City and other stakeholders to celebrate the beginning of construction on the landmark project.
Hickey Constructions will deliver the redevelopment, which will result in a new 33-bay undercover, floodlit driving range and upgraded clubhouse.
Players and visitors will benefit from a new commercial kitchen, modern lounge, outdoor deck with views across the 18th green, upgraded changerooms and a dedicated electric cart storage facility.
Modern technology, including a golf simulator, tuition room and automated ball distribution and collection system, will enhance the experience for existing golfers while attracting a new generation to the game.
Early works are already underway, with temporary pro-shop and hospitality facilities ensuring golfers can continue enjoying the course throughout construction.
Complementing the significant upgrades off the fairway, the City will continue to invest in the maintenance and enhancement of fairways, greens and other course facilities to ensure a high-quality playing experience.
Mayor Aitken said the project would cement Carramar's position as one of Perth's leading public golf destinations.
"It's about building on what people already love about Carramar and creating a welcoming place for more of our community to enjoy," she said.
"Carramar has served us well for many years. This redevelopment will attract more people to the game, enhance the experience for existing golfers and ensure Carramar remains a standout venue for years to come."
Belgravia Leisure WA Business Operations Manager Douglas Bailey said the redevelopment would take the facility to the next level.
"As one of the most popular golfing destinations in WA, Carramar Golf Course has been a benchmark of public access golf for the local community and beyond for many years," he said.
"The next chapter will provide the latest golf technologies, modern hospitality and a venue that welcomes both golfers and non-golfers alike."
Construction is expected to be completed in August 2027.
