Ross Burkart, professor of political science, provided economic and political expertise recently for two local news outlets - Boise State Public Radio and KTVB's "The 208."
For Boise State Public Radio, Burkhart was interviewed on the topics of tariffs during the holiday season and U.S. - Canada relations during the Trump Administration. Burkhart suggested that tariffs would slow holiday spending since so many consumer goods are made abroad, and that Canada is seeking more diversified markets in the face of dramatic rises in tariffs by the U.S.
For KTVB, Burkhart provided commentary on the historically high price of gold and its possible forecast of tough economic times. Many Idahoans who have gold are seeking to cash in, as gold is seen as a safer haven during uncertain economic times. He noted that foreign governments also invest in gold to diversity their economies away from reliance on U.S. investments.
