Today, US Representative Rosa DeLauro issued the following statement following her vote to pass a War Powers Resolution which directs the President to remove United States Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The resolution passed 215-208, with 4 Republicans joining all Democrats:
"Tonight, I joined a bipartisan majority of the House in voting to end President Trump's reckless war in Iran, which has driven up costs for Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling with the cost of living crisis, and isolated our country on the global stage. By passing this War Powers Resolution, Congress has sent an unmistakable message on behalf of the overwhelming majority of Americans who have opposed this war since it began: enough. President Trump failed to convince Americans that this war was needed, failed to achieve his objectives, and only succeeded in driving up gas prices to nearly $5 a gallon nationwide while throwing the global economy into chaos. It is clear he has no strategy, and no plan to end the fighting. It is now up to Congress to put an end to this conflict.
"We must never forget our servicemembers who were injured and the 13 American soldiers who have died in this conflict, and we must continue to honor their memory."
