It’s storm season in Indiana: Duke Energy’s investments in smart, self-healing technology are helping keep the lights on

• In 2025 alone, self-healing technology helped avoid 100,000 outages for Indiana customers

• Nearly half of company's Indiana service territory now served by the innovative technology

PLAINFIELD, Ind. - We're in the midst of Indiana's storm season, which runs from March to June. Duke Energy Indiana's investments in advanced "self-healing" technology will make a difference in keeping the lights on for customers.

What is self-healing technology?

• It's advanced technology that works like the GPS in a car - it automatically detects power outages and quickly reroutes power to restore service faster or even avoid the outage altogether.
  
• It can help to reduce the number of customers affected by an outage by as much as 75% and can often restore power in less than a minute. (Click here for a visual demonstration.)

By the numbers:

• In 2025 alone, self-healing technology helped avoid 100,000 outages for Indiana customers, saving around 350,000 hours of total outage time.
  
• Around 45% of Duke Energy Indiana customers currently benefit from self-healing technology - that's nearly four times the number of customers served by this innovative technology in 2022.
