The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority NPA Mr. Godwin Kudzo Tameklo (Esq.), has touted the Authority's disciplined regulatory regime of the country's downstream petroleum industry.
He said the disciplined regulation, fair pricing and firm oversight by the NPA are shaping a market that works for investors, operators, and consumers alike.
Mr. Tameklo was speaking as a panel member during a panel discussion on "Driving Domestic Value: Transforming Downstream Markets and Refining' at the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES).
His contribution drew a clear line between policy, practice, and impact, showing how consistent regulation can strengthen refining capacity, improve distribution, protect supply security, and encourage responsible investment across the value chain.
The discussion also reflected on Africa's broader downstream opportunity and the urgent need for the continent to refine, utilise, and retain more of its petroleum value within its own economies.
The NIES 2026 took place from February 2nd to 5th, 2026, in Abuja, focusing on the theme "Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing our Shared Future."
It is Africa's premier energy gathering and is attended by global leaders, policy maker, and industry experts. They discuss issues to drive investment, forge partnerships, and explore innovative solutions to energy challenges confronting the continent.
The summit is endorsed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, making it a key platform for strategic policy dialogue and investment opportunities in the energy sector.
