6th India-New Zealand Foreign Office Consultations (FOC)

The 6th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and New Zealand was held on 08 September 2025 in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South), Ministry of External Affairs, and the New Zealand delegation was led by Mr. Grahame Morton, Deputy Secretary - Americas and Asia Group, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

2. The two sides took stock of the full spectrum of bilateral relations, covering defence and security, trade and investment, education, agriculture, traditional medicine, customs, mobility, climate change, sports, and people-to-people linkages. They also assessed progress on MoUs and announcements made during the official visit of Prime Minister of New Zealand Rt. Hon. Christopher Luxon to India in March 2025. Regional and multilateral issues, including the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN and the United Nations, were also discussed, with agreement to further enhance cooperation in these fora.

3. Both sides agreed to maintain regular high-level engagements and institutional mechanisms. The next round of Consultations will be held in Wellington at a mutually convenient date.

4. This FOC also provided an opportunity to follow up on the discussions held during Foreign Minister of New Zealand Rt. Hon Winston Peter's visit to India in May 2025. Our engagement with New Zealand has intensified in the recent past with Hon'ble Rashtrapati ji's visit to New Zealand in August 2024 and Prime Minister of New Zealand's visit in March 2025.
