Defence Minister Nikos Dendias visits Massachusetts in the US

The Minister of Defence, Nikos Dendias, visited on Wednesday 22 April 2026 and Thursday 23 April 2026, the State of Massachusetts in the United States of America (USA) .

During his stay in the US State, Mr. Dendias met with members of academic and research organisations specializing, among others, in the fields of manufacture and countermeasures for unmanned systems, satellite communications, innovation, as well as treatment and cure for military injury.

In particular, the Minister of National Defence visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is among the world leading universities in the fields of Technology and Innovation, where he met with the Director of the Centre for Ocean Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Professor Michael Triantafyllou (William I. Koch).

In addition, the Minister visited the MIT's Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, where he met with Dr. Erotokritos Katsavounides, who has a long presence in research, in the fields of gravitational waves physics, massive objects astrophysics, and advanced data analysis.

The Greek Minister also met, while in Boston, with Dr. George Velmahos, Professor of Surgery in the Harvard Medical School, and Chief of the Division of Trauma and Emergency Surgery at the Massachusetts General, with whom he discussed the establishment of the Trauma Centre of the Hellenic Armed Forces.
