Important Construction Notice: Lane Closures for Front St, Magnolia Blvd, and Varney St Jan 26-Feb 13

An upcoming Burbank Water and Power (BWP) project has been updated. This work involves the installation of a tunnel bore under the railroad for the new electric lines associated with the Front Street development.

There will be intermittent southbound lane closures on Front Street from Monday, January 26, 2026, through Friday, February 13, 2026. Front Street will be one-way traffic with flaggers during the day, intermittently, from January 26, 2026, to February 13, 2026. Drivers should expect delays. Work will be continuous, 24 hours a day/seven days a week, from February 2, 2026, to February 13, 2026.

The one-way eastbound Magnolia feeder road, near 10 W Magnolia, will be closed intermittently from January 26, 2026 to February 2, 2026. The one-way eastbound Magnolia feeder road, near 10 W Magnolia, will be closed 24/7 for 10 days starting on February 2, 2026. Detours will be provided via Varney from Cypress, with a one-way westbound lane, and flaggers will be present to allow for two-way traffic. There will be delays and parking restrictions underneath and around the Magnolia Bridge, feeder roads, and along detours.

Turns into N Varney St from Magnolia Bl will be prohibited during feeder road closures. Detours will be provided via Cypress Ave, see detour map attached. Detour signs will be posted.

For access to N Varney St and the area under the Magnolia Bridge between Varney St and Front St (including businesses located on N Varney St and at 5 W Magnolia Bl and 17 W Magnolia Bl):

  • Westbound Magnolia traffic can detour via N Moss St and Cypress Ave.
  • Eastbound Magnolia traffic can detour via First St, Olive Ave, Victory Bl, and Cypress Ave.
  • Additional intermittent closures will likely be required over the following months extending to late spring or early summer, but schedules are not set and pending completion of this work to proceed.

Please refer to the following pages for additional project information.

Thank you for your cooperation as we complete this important infrastructure update.
