MTA Announces Return of Weekend Service on Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry Beginning Saturday, May 23

Ferry Service Will Run Hourly on Weekends Through Saturday, Oct. 31

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the return of weekend service on Metro-North Railroad's Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry. This program, now in its third year, will offer hourly service across the Hudson River beginning Saturday, May 23, with ferries timed to connect at Ossining with trains to and from New York City. The schedules will remain in effect through Saturday, Oct. 31.

The ferry will operate hourly service between 11:23 a.m. and 9:10 p.m. on weekends. Similar to the first two years of the weekend ferry service, ferries will not operate on Memorial Day, or Labor Day, however, this year, the ferry will operate on Independence Day.

"The ferry provides a convenient connection between Rockland and Westchester and the weekend service gives customers a chance to enjoy the Hudson Valley," said Metro-North Railroad President Justin Vonashek. "From summer days on the river to peak fall foliage, extending service through Halloween gives customers more time to take advantage of everything the route has to offer."

"Rockland is thrilled to host weekend visitors once again thanks to the return of Metro-North's Haverstraw-Ossining Weekend Ferry Service," said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. "Combined with our own Transport of Rockland (TOR) Weekend Ferry Connection bus, travelers can cross the beautiful Hudson to the Landing at Haverstraw Bay and from there, discover all that Rockland has to offer, including our charming river towns and shops, fairs and festivals, scenic trails, local eateries, and more-all just 30 miles from NYC."

"This is exactly the kind of service that makes a difference for people," said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. "The return of weekend ferry service gives residents a simple, reliable way to move between Westchester and Rockland while also making it easier to enjoy the Hudson River and everything around it. It strengthens connections across the region and gives people another option beyond getting in a car. We're glad to see this program continue and appreciate the MTA's investment in making it work."

"I am thrilled that MTA is re-launching weekend service on the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry, now a tried and true economic development engine for the region in its second season," said Assemblymember Dana Levenberg. "The expanded ferry service enables so many leisure travelers to relax and enjoy an inexpensive boat ride between downtowns on both sides of the river, where they have the chance to discover our restaurants, shops, the summer concert series, and so much more. This continues to be a major boon to our local economies."

"The Village is happy to see the return of weekend ferry service throughout the summer and fall," said Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut. "It's a great opportunity for east of Hudson residents and folks from New York City to visit Haverstraw and Rockland County and for our residents to explore the whole Metro-North territory. A quick ferry ride opens up worlds of possibilities."

"The return of the Haverstraw-Ossining ferry is a welcome reconnection across the Hudson-linking our communities, supporting local businesses, and giving residents and visitors a scenic, convenient alternative to driving," said Village of Ossining Mayor Rika Levin.

"We're pleased to continue our partnership with MTA Metro-North to again provide weekend service between Haverstraw to Ossining," said NY Waterway President and CEO Armand Pohan. "The ferry offers a reliable and enjoyable way for passengers to connect with and explore all that the Hudson Valley has to offer, on both sides of the river, this summer."

An adult one-way ticket on the Haverstraw-Ossining ferry costs $4.75. Seniors (62 or older), people with disabilities, and Medicare recipients pay $2.50 with appropriate ID. Children 5 and under ride free on the ferry. Children aged 6-11 pay $2.50. A 10-trip ferry ticket is available for $40.00.

First launched in May 2024, the weekend ferry service is designed to enhance the reach of Metro-North to Rockland County and serve as an alternative to driving to New York City. During the opening weekend, the ferry averaged 240 riders a day. In June, that grew to an average of 284 riders daily, and in July, ridership reached an average of 455 riders a day on the weekend. The ferry set a record of 822 riders on Sunday, July 21.

The Transport of Rockland (TOR) Weekend Ferry Connection is a free bus meets all ferry arrivals and departures and takes visitors into historic Haverstraw Village and other popular Rockland destinations, including the Garner Arts Center, Rockland Lake State Park, the Village of Nyack, and Palisades Center Mall. The TOR Ferry Connection offers 26 trips each day between 9 am and 11 pm, including extra trips in the evening, providing a later option for Hudson Line and ferry customers to return to Haverstraw or access Tarrytown Station via connection with Hudson Link buses at Nyack and the Palisades Center.
