Industry commits to continued efforts to protect biodiversity at close of COP17

On the occasion of the 17th session of the Convention on Biological Diversity Conference of the Parties (COP17), Guilherme Cintra, Director, Innovation Policy, IFPMA said:

"The pharmaceutical industry plays a central role in protecting health and recognizes that fulfilling this mission requires a healthy and biodiverse planet.

"For this reason, we have long supported the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity and our member companies continue to deliver against the targets set out in the Global Biodiversity Framework through company initiatives and decades of pre-competitive collaboration.

"COP17 has underscored both the urgency of accelerating progress toward the 2030 biodiversity targets and how much work remains to develop mechanisms that would enable industry to engage meaningfully and contribute. Much of that work has been pushed into the two years leading up to COP18, which should focus on practical, evidence-based solutions that support both biodiversity and scientific development."
