Update on Child Abuse Case

Wednesday, July 15, 2026

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Cassandra Baughman, 21, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to one count of Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (Class D felony). Baughman was permitted to enter a guilty plea to the second count in full satisfaction of the indictment.

On or about December 11, 2025, Baughman, while acting in concert with two other defendants, recklessly engaged in conduct that created a grave risk of death to a child. As are all persons accused of a crime, those defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Our office will have no further comment while the case is pending prosecution.

Baughman faces maximum of 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison when she is sentenced on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. She continues to be released under the supervision of the Probation Department.
