JACKSON, Tenn. - Students at Huntingdon Primary School recently put their creativity on display as part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Region 4's annual Paint the Plow project. The statewide initiative encourages students to create unique artwork on TDOT snowplows while promoting winter weather safety and highlighting the important work TDOT crews perform to keep Tennessee roads safe.
Led by art teacher Alex Gooch, Huntingdon Primary School's third-grade students transformed a TDOT snowplow into a colorful tribute to their community. The design features a cityscape of Huntingdon with a roadway winding through town beneath a vibrant night sky and prominently displays the safety message, "Move Over, Slow Down," reminding motorists to use caution when approaching highway maintenance vehicles, emergency responders, and other roadside workers.
The painted snowplow will make its debut during the Huntingdon Christmas Parade next month.
As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel.
The Move Over Law was passed in 2006. The penalty for violating the law in Tennessee carries the possibility of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500.
