April 12, 2026 - Effective immediately, the City of Fort Lauderdale is issuing a precautionary advisory to avoid water-related recreational activities in the Lago Karen Canal as a result of a wastewater discharge into the waterway following a break in a nearby 6-inch sewer force main. The boundaries of the impacted area are:

  • North: NE 1st Street
  • South: E. Las Olas Boulevard
  • West: S. Gordon Road
  • East: Isle of Venice Drive

Swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, canoeing, or engaging in any other water-related activities should be avoided within the advisory area. Water sampling in the affected area will take place daily. The precautionary advisory will be lifted once satisfactory test results are obtained.
