Fittingly, during Memorial Day weekend, the community of Attica will gather for a special ceremony to rededicate the historic chapel in Forest Hill Cemetery. The ceremony will mark the successful completion of an ambitious project to stabilize and restore the iconic structure, led by the Attica Landmark Preservation Society and Forest Hill Cemetery, and made possible through the support of many community residents and business owners in the Village of Attica.

Built in 1902, before the existence of funeral homes, the Chapel long served as the place where funerals and memorials were held in Forest Hill. Given the Chapel's location near the center of the cemetery, the building became its focal point, emerging as a space for a variety of community gatherings, weddings, and other social events such as Memorial Day, and Veterans Day celebrations, and more.

However, over time, the structure deteriorated badly, prompting the Attica Landmark Preservation Society (ALPS), as stewards of the historic building, to work with the Forest Lawn Cemetery Group, which acquired Forest Hill Cemetery in 2023. The two organizations collaborated on a plan to stabilize and restore the Chapel and chart the course for its preservation, including raising the $200,000 in funds necessary.
