WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement on the deal to end the war in Gaza.
"This agreement is a welcome first step towards lasting peace in the region. If implemented successfully, hostages will finally return to their families and Israel and Hamas will move towards a durable ceasefire.
"We're at a delicate moment. Palestinians urgently need life-saving aid and Israelis deserve sustained security. All parties must continue down this path to peace and a better future."
Hickenlooper has repeatedly advocated for sustained access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, including food, water, and life-saving medical supplies, the delivery of lifesaving fuel to hospitals and water treatment facilities, and funding to meet the United Nations' $294 million emergency appeal. Hickenlooper has repeatedly called for a humanitarian pause in Gaza as well as a mutual ceasefire and the release of all Hamas-held hostages. He also urged President Biden to address the uptick in settler violence and the dire economic situation for Palestinians in the West Bank.
