WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) released the following statement on his 'no' vote on the Stop Insider Trading Act, which includes a restrictive voter ID requirement from the SAVE America Act that will suppress voters across the country.
"I don't trade individual stocks, and I don't think other members of Congress or the President should either. I support a clean, serious bill banning stock trading by members of Congress and the President. That's not what this is. This bill does absolutely nothing about corruption at the top of our government, leaving a carve out for President Trump and his family to keep profiting off the presidency. Republican leadership also tied this to a flawed voter suppression bill that would end vote by mail.
"There is a real chance for meaningful reform. Democrats have a real stock trading ban, the Restore Trust in Government Act, that will actually ban Members of Congress and their families from trading stocks. And the ban would include the President and Vice President- no exceptions, no carve outs. If Republican leadership actually wanted to ban stock trading by members of Congress, they would bring the Restore Trust in Government Act to the floor."
