Munson Healthcare Participates in Statewide Cancer Medication Donation Week

Partnership with Michigan-based non-profit YesRx puts free prescriptions in the hands of patients.

During Cancer Medication Donation Week, October 19-23, Munson Healthcare is partnering with YesRx to help unused oral cancer medications reach patients in Michigan at no cost.

YesRx is a Michigan based non-profit that serves as a network and facilitator for Michigan's Cancer Drug Repository System, helping move donated medications into the state's repository program and connect eligible patients with participating pharmacies.

Individuals can donate oral cancer medication or supportive medication that is:

  • Sealed in original manufacturer packaging
  • At least six months from its expiration date
  • Stored at room temperature

These medications can be dropped off this week or year-round at any one of Munson Healthcare's seven infusion centers across Northern Michigan including:

  • Cadillac Cancer & Infusion Clinic
    400 Hobart St.
    Cadillac, MI 49601

"We see firsthand the incredible impact YesRx and the Cancer Drug Repository make on people's lives," said Kathy LaRaia, Munson Healthcare Vice President of Oncology and Professional Services. "The donation of a single unopened bottle can mean a full month of treatment for someone who otherwise might not be able to afford life-saving medication."

According to the American Cancer Society, 3 out of every 4 cancer patients say they are worried about the cost of their care. Meanwhile, the Pharmacy Times Oncology Edition estimates that more than $3 billion worth of cancer medications go to waste each year.

Formed in 2023, YesRx and participating pharmacies have already recovered over $53 million worth of donated cancer medication and helped 2,300 patients in Michigan receive their prescriptions at no cost.
