City of Novato Invests in Local Businesses Through Tenant Improvement Grant Program

The City of Novato is investing local dollars directly into local businesses with the relaunch of the Tenant Improvement Grant Program. Earlier this year, the Novato City Council approved $100,000 toward the program to support economic development and enhance the physical appearance and long-term success of Downtown businesses.

Through matching grant reimbursements, eligible Downtown Novato business and property owners can make permanent improvements to their commercial buildings, with a focus on façades, signage, and other publicly visible upgrades. In addition to funding, businesses receive guidance from the Marin Small Business Development Center (SBDC), ensuring that investments not only improve a property's appearance, but also strengthen the underlying business.

"Investing in our local businesses is investing in the future of Novato," said Economic Development Manager Katie Skjerping. "A small improvement can make a big impact on a business. We're excited to bring this program back to help our business community grow and strengthen our local economy."

Businesses located within the Downtown Novato Business Improvement District are eligible to apply. Applications will be reviewed for completeness and eligibility, with funding awarded based on program guidelines, availability of funds, and submission of all required documentation.

Funds are limited, and the program will close once the $100,000 is fully allocated. Businesses are encouraged to apply early.
