Larson Blasts Republican Refusal to Re-Open TSA and Coast Guard, and Rein in ICE Lawlessness

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) blasted House Republican leadership's decision to walk away from Rep. Rosa DeLauro's dealto re-open the Department of Homeland Security that unanimously passed the Senate last night. That bill would fund all agencies at the Department of Homeland Security, except for ICE and the Border Patrol, which are already operating with a $75 BILLION slush fund from the so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill."

"After more than a month of shutdown games, Senate Republicans finally passed our bill to re-open the Department of Homeland Security without a blank check for President Trump's personal ICE army," said Larson. "House Republicans can join us now to fund these critical agencies - but they are once again continuing their charades - demanding another $10 billion for ICE and the most severe voting restrictions since Jim Crow before they will agree to pay our hard-working federal workers and troops. If Republicans want to continue to hold them hostage, then members of the Cabinet, the President, Vice President, and Members of Congress are the ones who should go without pay, not the dedicated TSA officers and members of the Coast Guard."

During the shutdown in October, Larson introduced the Make America Govern Again (MAGA) Actto ensure all civilian and military personnel get paid during a shutdown while withholding pay for Members of Congress, the President, the Vice President, and members of the Cabinet.

Following Trump's call to 'nationalize elections,' Larson introduced the Stop ICE Election Militarization Actto protect American elections from illegal ICE interference. Larson has called for disbanding ICEand is championing legislation in Congress to require federal agents to identify themselves; bar ICE raidsin schools, hospitals, courthouses, and places of worship; ban abusive tacticsincluding chokeholds; and redirect ICE funding from the Republican budget to lower health care premiumsand expand affordable housing.
