Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, in partnership with Fermanagh & Omagh District Council and Cavan County Council, is inviting expressions of interest from heritage enthusiasts across the region to take part in its long-standing Geopark Ambassadors Programme.
Councillor John Paul Feeley, Chair of the Geopark Committee, said: "Our Geopark Ambassadors have been central to the development and success of the Geopark since 2011. They play a vital role in engaging and inspiring both local communities and visitors by promoting understanding, pride, and sustainable exploration of the area. As champions of the Geopark, they support education, events, and help ensure our heritage is celebrated and preserved."
The Geopark is now seeking to expand its Ambassador Network by recruiting 20 new participants for an eight-week training programme. This programme will offer expert-led sessions and guest speakers covering topics such as UNESCO Global Geoparks, the natural, built and cultural heritage of the region, inclusion and accessibility, event management, and tour guiding skills. Ambassadors will also visit key sites within the Geopark to complement classroom-based learning and will have the opportunity to learn from other heritage-focused community initiatives and social enterprises across Ireland.
Councillor Anthony Feeley, Vice Chair of the Geopark Committee, added: "Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark is steeped in heritage, with many wonderful and unique stories to tell. We encourage local heritage enthusiasts to consider becoming Geopark Ambassadors, deepening their understanding of this special place and acting as proud custodians of its rich heritage. By sharing their knowledge and appreciation, they can help bring our heritage to life and ensure it is cherished for future generations."
The programme will be delivered through a blend of in-person and online modules, designed to foster interaction and create a platform for sharing experiences. It will also include collaboration with the Regenerative Tourism Network, offering valuable insights and connections within the tourism and heritage sectors.
