Karmanos Cancer Center has been recognized as the only cancer center nationwide to "achieve a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) rate of zero," as reported by Becker's Oncology.
A CAUTI rate measures how often patients contract infections while receiving medical care in the hospital.
Of the 532 hospitals on the list from across the country, 11 cancer hospitals were deemed to have a "low" CAUTI rate (ranging from 0.155 to 1.896), though Karmanos was the only cancer center to be rated at zero. The list considers CAUTI rates between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025.
Rates are compiled from data from CMS's Healthcare-Associated Infection dataset, which receives data from the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network tracking system.
