The City of Alexandria has announced the appointment of a new Legislative Director. City Manager James Parajon selected Fatimah Dandashi for the role following a national search. Dandashi brings experience in local and state government, including previous work with Fairfax County and the Virginia Senate. As Legislative Director, she will oversee the City's intergovernmental affairs, advocate for state and federal funding, and work closely with City Council and City departments to advance Alexandria's legislative priorities. She will begin her new role on October 26.
"Throughout her career, she has helped advance the legislative and policy priorities of localities while ensuring the voices of the residents are heard." said Parajon "I know she will do the same here in Alexandria and successfully advocate for the City's legislative goals in Richmond."
Dandashi is a public servant with experience working for elected officials at the local and state levels in Northern Virginia. Most recently, she served as District Director for Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell and worked to connect constituents with state agencies and partner organizations in Richmond and across the Commonwealth. Her past experience includes serving as Casework and Policy Aide for Fairfax County Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk. She is committed to making government work for the people of Northern Virginia and to ensuring resident voices shape the decisions that affect their communities.
Dandashi holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Politics from George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government. She was born and raised in Northern Virginia and enjoys traveling, hiking in local parks, and exploring the diversity of restaurants across our region.
