APMA and Mississippi Podiatrists Advance Scope Modernization at Capitol Day

On January 20, the Mississippi Podiatric Medical Association (MsPMA) hosted a successful Capitol Day at the Mississippi State Capitol. Capitol Day brought podiatric physicians face to face with lawmakers to advance legislation to modernize podiatric scope of practice in the state (SB 2442).

To underscore national support for the state's advocacy efforts, APMA President Brooke Bisbee, DPM, attended the event alongside MsPMA President Charles Caplis, DPM, and other Mississippi podiatric leaders. Podiatric physicians participated in hallway meetings, were formally introduced on the Senate floor, and shared a patient-focused video highlighting the importance of timely access to foot and ankle care provided by podiatrists. APMA has been working closely with MsPMA throughout this campaign, including providing a Center for Professional Advocacy (CPA) assistance grant, strategic guidance on legislative advocacy, and customized leave-behind materials to support conversations with lawmakers.

MsPMA leaders reported strong momentum for SB 2442 following meetings with key members of the Senate Public Health Committee and bill sponsors, including multiple senators who expressed support. The Capitol Day marked an important step forward in advancing patient access to comprehensive foot and ankle care in Mississippi.
