EAST ST. LOUIS - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced ramp closures on Interstate 70 at the I-64/55/70 interchange in St. Clair County for bridge repairs as part of a $3.8 million bridge rehabilitation project.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, the following ramps will be closed:
The westbound I-64 to westbound I-70 ramp will be fully closed, while one lane of the westbound I-55/70 to westbound I-70 ramp will remain open.
The project will repair and preserve existing structures carrying I-70 over I-55/64 and nearby railroad tracks.
Signed detours will be provided as follows:
All lanes are expected to reopen by Thursday, Sept. 3, weather permitting.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
