Ramp closures scheduled for I-64/70 interchange bridge repairs in St. Clair County

EAST ST. LOUIS - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced ramp closures on Interstate 70 at the I-64/55/70 interchange in St. Clair County for bridge repairs as part of a $3.8 million bridge rehabilitation project.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, the following ramps will be closed:

  • Westbound I-64 to westbound I-70
  • One lane of westbound I-55/70 to westbound I-70

The westbound I-64 to westbound I-70 ramp will be fully closed, while one lane of the westbound I-55/70 to westbound I-70 ramp will remain open.

The project will repair and preserve existing structures carrying I-70 over I-55/64 and nearby railroad tracks.

Signed detours will be provided as follows:

  • From northbound I-255: Continue north through the I-64 interchange to westbound I-55/70.
  • From westbound I-64 east of I-255: Take northbound I-255 to westbound I-55/70.
  • From westbound I-64 west of I-255: Travel east on I-55/70 to Illinois 111 northbound, then reconnect to westbound I-55/70.

All lanes are expected to reopen by Thursday, Sept. 3, weather permitting.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
