Wärtsilä recognised as the only European company in Wood Mackenzie's global top 10 BESS integrator ranking

Recognition highlights the growing importance of proven delivery, software expertise, and lifecycle support as battery energy storage becomes critical infrastructure

Technology group Wärtsilä has been recognised among the world's top 10 battery energy storage system (BESS) integrators in Wood Mackenzie's inaugural Global BESS Integrator Comprehensive Ranking, making it the only European-headquartered company included in the global top 10.

The recognition comes as the energy storage industry enters a new phase of growth. According to Wood Mackenzie, competition is increasingly being shaped not only by manufacturing scale, but by the ability to execute projects successfully across international markets and support customers throughout the full asset lifecycle.

"As energy storage becomes critical infrastructure, customers are placing greater emphasis on project execution, operational performance and long-term support," says Tamara De Gruyter, President of Wärtsilä Energy Storage. "We believe this recognition reflects the strength of Wärtsilä's integrator-led approach, combining proven delivery expertise, advanced software and lifecycle services to help customers maximise value from their energy storage investments."

Wood Mackenzie's assessment evaluated suppliers across ten criteria, including technology maturity, research and development, safety, supply chain resilience, ESG performance and financial strength. The report identified execution experience as a key competitive differentiator, noting the growing importance of system design, commissioning expertise and long-term operational performance as projects increase in size and complexity.

With more than a decade of energy storage experience, Wärtsilä has delivered projects across global markets, combining integrated storage solutions with its GEMS Digital Energy Platform to optimise performance throughout the life of an asset. GEMS helps customers maximise revenues, improve reliability and adapt to evolving market requirements.

"This ranking reinforces what we are hearing from customers around the world: long-term success depends not only on the quality of the technology, but on the expertise behind it," says Don Lee, Vice President of Operations, "As storage becomes an increasingly important part of the energy system, the ability to deliver, optimise and support assets over decades will be a critical differentiator."

Wood Mackenzie's Global BESS Integrator Comprehensive Ranking is published annually and evaluates suppliers of battery energy storage systems based on company performance during the previous calendar year.
