Special Assembly Meeting for GLOF Disaster Declaration and More on June 18

The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Assembly will hold a special meeting at 12 p.m. on Thursday, June 18 online via Zoom. Topics on the agenda include:

A resolution declaring a local emergency in response to the 2026 Glacier Outburst Flood (GLOF)

Following similar actions preceding previous GLOFs, this resolution declares a local emergency for the anticipated 2026 GLOF and requests continued state assistance to support flood preparedness, response, and mitigation efforts. It also extends the local emergency declaration for 180 days.

A resolution providing an emergency appropriation of $3.5 million for required school roof repairs following the 2026 winter storm

With funding provided through CBJ Risk Management Funds, this appropriation allows for critical roof repair work to be completed before school begins this fall. The majority of these costs will be reimbursed by CBJ's property insurance.

A resolution supporting two United States Coast Guard (USCG) cutters, and affirming CBJ's support to USCG personnel and dependents

This resolution reaffirms CBJ's support for the USCG, the homeporting of an additional USCG Cutter in Juneau, and continued collaboration with federal agencies to ensure housing, schooling, and community support for USCG families.
