Tempe This Week Sept. 8, 2025

Last Tuesday, the Tempe City Council voted to rescind parks and events ordinance O2025.25 in favor of crafting a new ordinance formed with public involvement opportunities.

Watch the meeting - remarks start at 21:48.

Residents will soon be able to provide ideas on how to improve Tempe's parks and events ordinances. Staff is now in the process of creating an outreach plan that will include public meetings.

"To me, public involvement is mission critical - and it's one of the things Tempe does best. Last year alone, we had more than 100 neighborhood and public meetings on everything from the heat safety ordinance to street improvements," said Mayor Corey Woods. "In every instance, the feedback we get from residents always makes our solutions better."

Ordinance 5-2, which was written in 1967, needs to be updated to reflect Tempe's growth, the size and variety of special events, and the extensive use of city parks. That ordinance will remain in effect until a new ordinance is passed.
