City of Tampa Seeking Community Input for Sulphur Springs Neighborhood Action Plan
TAMPA, Fla. (August 19, 2025) -- A few short months after its first Community Meeting, the City of Tampa will host its second workshop as it moves forward with the Sulphur Springs Neighborhood Action Plan (SSNAP). The Action Plan is an effort to identify and coordinate improvements within the community, with the hopes of reinvigorating the neighborhood of nearly 10,000 residents, and improve the overall quality of life.

The City will be hosting a Phase 2 Workshop at the Sulphur Spring K-8 Community School this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At this meeting, staff will present the results of the project's first phase, followed by interactive activities to gain insights and feedback from workshop attendees.

"Our first phase included listening to the people who know Sulphur Springs best," said Evan Johnson, the City of Tampa's Interim Director of City Planning. "We gathered data and paired it with surveys, stories, and interviews to better understand what's working and what needs to change. Phase 2 will be drafting a shared vision for the future of Sulphur Springs and identifying the top priorities."

Nestled just north of downtown Tampa along the Hillsborough River, Sulphur Springs is a historic community that dates back to the 1920's, when people were drawn to its namesake natural springs. The Neighborhood Action Plan will rely on residents, business and property owners, community organizations and City departments to identify and implement actions to foster a resilient community, including:

  • Guiding investments in infrastructure such as roads, sidewalks, parks and utilities.
  • Informing updates to development policies to support the neighborhood's goals.
  • Driving the creation of community programs such as job training or youth activities.
  • Helping the city identify and prioritize funding for projects.
  • Encouraging collaboration between public agencies and private developers.

Media will have the opportunity to hear from the Senior Planning Coordinator Lauren O'Neill Tuesday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a preview of what's to be discussed at the Phase 2 Workshop.
