Public Works Week in Review for October 2, 2025

The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 140 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

Below are some tips and projects they are working on:

Rapid Response Crew Completes I-45 Underpass Maintenance

The City's Rapid Response Crew recently conducted scheduled maintenance sweeps beneath the I-45 freeway at FM 518, League City Pkwy and FM 646. As part of this initiative, crews removed accumulated debris, litter, and obstructions from underpasses and adjacent areas. Crews perform this work by use of a Skid-Loader with a sweeper attachment. These maintenance activities are important to ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians by keeping roadside areas clear of potential hazards.

Public Safety Vehicle Replacement

Fleet Maintenance prioritizes preventative maintenance and works to ensure the readiness of League City Public Safety vehicles. This includes regularly scheduled preventative maintenance, timely repairs, and end-of-life vehicle replacement. When a new patrol unit is received, it undergoes a comprehensive inspection to ensure it meets all departmental standards and operational requirements. Following a rigorous and thorough in-service process, the unit is then released to support the Police Department in its mission to protect and serve the citizens of League City.
