The President met with politicians in charge of implementing foreign and national security policy

On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with politicians responsible for implementing foreign and national security policy. The meeting focused on Lithuania's positions on key foreign policy and national security issues.

"With the international agenda becoming increasingly unpredictable, we must speak with one voice on the most important issues of Lithuania's foreign and national security policy and strengthen our coordination. That is why today's meeting was particularly useful," the President said.

Participants of the meeting reviewed Lithuania's support for Ukraine and the country's efforts to ensure that Ukraine's position at the peace negotiations table is as strong as possible, while encouraging all European Union member states to contribute more towards achieving this goal. The importance of continuing Lithuania's comprehensive support for Ukraine was emphasized, along with the need to enhance the involvement and cooperation of Lithuania's defense industry with the Ukrainian defense sector.

In discussing the strengthening of Lithuania's relations with Germany, Gitanas Nausėda noted that the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania presents a unique opportunity to deepen not only defense cooperation but also political, economic, and social ties with Europe's largest economy. It was proposed at the meeting that the Government develop a cooperation program with Germany for the period until 2030.

The meeting also addressed Lithuania's consistent and principled stance towards the Belarusian regime. Participants of the meeting reaffirmed Lithuania's unwavering support for Belarusian democratic society, non-recognition of the Minsk regime, and Lithuania's commitment to maintaining a consistent and strict EU sanctions policy against the regime, which is enabling Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė, Foreign Affairs Minister Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of National Defense Robertas Kaunas, Chair of the Seimas Committee on Foreign Affairs Remigijus Motuzas, and Chair of the Seimas Committee on European Affairs Rasa Budbergytė.
