Basic Education and Home Affairs undertake joint community engagements in Worcester, 6 Mar

The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber and the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Siviwe Gwarube, will tomorrow, Friday, 06 March 2026, undertake joint community engagements in Worcester, Breede Valley Municipality, as part of government's ongoing commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening community partnerships.

The visit will focus on enhancing access to critical government services, supporting vulnerable community members, and advancing the integration of technology in education to improve learner outcomes.

As part of the programme, the Ministers will:

  • Engage senior citizens during a visit to a local old-age home
  • Visit Esselen Park Secondary School to hand over South African identity documents to qualifying learners who previously did not have IDs, ensuring they are fully registered and able to access opportunities and public services
  • Donate smart tablets to the school as part of government's drive to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning in South African classrooms
