On Sunday in Vilnius, President Gitanas Nausėda, together with First Lady Diana Nausėdienė, will take part in the commemoration of the 163rd anniversary of the January Uprising.
The President and the First Lady will attend a Holy Mass for the insurgents at Vilnius Cathedral Basilica and will lay wreaths at the chapel of Rasos Cemetery.
Leaders of the uprising, Zigmantas Sierakauskas and Konstantinas Kalinauskas, as well as 18 other insurgents whose remains were discovered on Gediminas Hill in 2017, are buried at this cemetery.
To mark the January Uprising against the Russian occupation, the President has also invited the leaders of brotherly states of the region to Vilnius.
In 2023, at the President's initiative, the Seimas declared 22 January-the day marking the beginning of the January Uprising against the Russian occupation-a memorable day.
