Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Dr. Joshua E. Meyer Named a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology

PHILADELPHIA (September 28, 2025) - Joshua E. Meyer, MD, FASTRO, Vice Chair of Translational Research and a Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncologyat Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been named a Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) at the organization's 2025 Annual Meeting being held in San Francisco.

A Leader in Radiation Oncology

Fellowship in ASTRO is awarded to members who have made significant contributions to radiation oncology in the areas of research, clinical care, and service to the society.

Meyer, who joined Fox Chase in 2010, is a nationally recognized leader in radiation oncology and gastrointestinal cancer care and research. Board certified in radiation oncology, he has been repeatedly honored for both his clinical and academic contributions. He received the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology Educator of the Year Award in 2015 and 2022, as well as the Paul Engstrom Award for Cancer Care Excellence in 2025.

Career Highlights

Meyer's accomplishments reflect a career-long dedication to advancing cancer treatment:

  • Research & Career Honors: Recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics, as well as one of Philadelphia magazine's Top Doctors in 2023 and 2024.
  • Professional Development: Named Director of Clinical and Translational Research for the Gastrointestinal Service Line at Fox Chase as well as Director of the Marvin and Concetta Greenberg Pancreatic Cancer Institute.
  • Grants & Recognition: Awarded a grant from Varian Medical Systems, a Siemens Healthineers company, for studies on adaptive radiation use in rectal cancer. Additionally awarded the In Vino VitaPilot Project Award for a study on locally advanced rectal cancer.

Active in Research and Professional Societies

At Fox Chase, Meyer is also a member of the Cancer Signaling and Microenvironment Research Program, where his work contributes to innovative approaches for improving patient outcomes. Beyond Fox Chase, he plays an active role in the professional community through his memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Radiology, and ASTRO, underscoring his leadership in shaping the field of radiation oncology at both the clinical and policy levels.

Considering that fewer than 500 physicians worldwide have been made ASTRO Fellows since 2006, Fox Chase has a high percentage based on our size," said Eric M. Horwitz, MD, FABS, FASTRO, Professor and Chair, Department of Radiation Oncology at Fox Chase and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.
