"This project is about ensuring every neighborhood, especially those most impacted by the legacy of I-81 Viaduct, benefits, share in the benefits of the Community Grid transformation," said Joe Driscoll, City I-81 Project Director. "We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape how people move through and experience our city. That is why community input at this stage is not just valuable; it is essential. It will help us design safer, more connected streets and create new opportunities for residents in every corner of Syracuse."
Community members are invited to review and share feedback on draft street designs. Participants will also be able to partake in an interactive "street-mix" activity, where they will be able to illustrate what they would like to see in the future.
The Reconnecting Communities Planning Grant focuses on five Southside corridors - Colvin Street, Taylor Street, MLK Street, Adams and Harrison streets, and the proposed Linear Park planned between Roesler and Wilson parks. Aligned with the City's Vision Zero initiative and the I-81 Viaduct Project, this project aims to enhance safety and accessibility for walking, biking, and public transit improving connectivity for residents and visitors, particularly on the Southside.
