Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Matti Sarasmaa will visit Estonia on 10 June. During the trip, they will observe a joint exercise organised by Estonia, involving authorities from several European countries. The Finnish Police and the Finnish Border Guard will also take part in the exercise.
"The participation of the Finnish Police and the Finnish Border Guard in Estonia's exercise is a good example of cross-border cooperation. In the current security situation, cooperation is more important than ever as cross-border crime has increased and hybrid threats have become more common," say Minister Rantanen and Permanent Secretary Sarasmaa.
The ILVES 2026 inter-agency exercise takes place in May and June. It is an operational exercise in which Finnish authorities practise providing international assistance from Finland to Estonia under the Prüm Treaty. Prüm cooperation streamlines cooperation between national authorities and enables joint operations.
The Finnish Police and the Finnish Border Guard work closely with their Estonian counterparts, building on long-standing partnerships.
During the visit, Minister Rantanen will also meet Estonia's Minister of the Interior Igor Taro.
