Sneak Peek: West Jordan Officially Unveils the New Water Tank Mural

If you've driven near SLCC's Jordan Campus lately, you may have already noticed something vibrant rising above the trees. Wednesday, the City of West Jordan, in partnership with Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), will officially unveil the city's newest mural-now fully installed on the water tank at 3465 W 9000 S.

The mural, titled"Vida Del Valle" ("Life of the Valley"), was created by internationally recognized muralist and recent SLCC graduate Beto Conejo. His design reflects our community's relationship with water-its power as a source of life, the need to protect it, and its importance for future generations. According to Conejo, the flowers featured in the piece symbolize what inspires us to safeguard this resource today, and what will continue inspiring us long into the future.

Painting such precise geometric shapes across a towering curved tank was no small feat. Conejo described the challenge of working on uneven ground and even painting through the night to bring the mural to life.

SLCC sponsored and funded the mural as part of a broader effort to increase public art throughout West Jordan. "Art prompts people to slow down, reflect and wonder," said James Walton, SLCC's program manager for galleries and art. He noted that the mural's vivid colors serve as a reminder of the essential role water plays in keeping our state sustainable.

Mayor Dirk Burton echoed the community's enthusiasm: "West Jordan residents love West Jordan. West Jordan residents love art. Bringing these loves together with a mural painted by Salt Lake Community College helps make West Jordan fantastic!"
