People with cancer undergoing chemotherapy at Reading Hospital's McGlinn Cancer Institute now have access to scalp cooling technology that can help reduce hair loss, without the added expense or travel previously required to access the treatment.

Purchased by The Friends of Reading Hospital, the equipment gives eligible patients an option for managing one of chemotherapy's most visible side effects. For Joetta Sunday, 69, of Womelsdorf, that option addressed one of her biggest concerns after being diagnosed with breast cancer: she didn't want to look sick.

"It's hard to wrap your head around the diagnosis," Sunday said. "There is concern and worry no matter the prognosis, and not looking ill allows you to focus on normalcy."
