Public Service Announcement: Make sure your address is current with DMV

Have you moved recently? Make sure your address is up to date with DMV. You are legally required to update your address with DMV within 30 days of moving. This helps us send important information to the right address and protects your online DMV account against fraud. Updating your address with DMV does not update it with other state or federal agencies; you need to contact each agency separately.

Reasons to keep your address updated with DMV

  • When buying a car, dealerships usually handle the DMV paperwork and associated fees. If the correct address is not in the system, it can lead to a delay in registering your car and receiving your plates and stickers.
  • The U.S. Postal Service will not forward DMV mail, such as driver's licenses, state IDs or vehicle titles. The mail is returned to DMV to prevent identity theft and fraud.
