WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after House Republicans added restrictive voting provisions to a bill on congressional stock trading:
"I strongly support a stock trading ban. I have cosponsored two comprehensive bipartisan bills and signed two discharge petitions this Congress to ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from trading or owning individual stocks.
"Republicans squandered what could have been a strong bipartisan vote by attaching voter suppression provisions from the SAVE America Act. These burdensome restrictions would make it harder for eligible Americans to vote and would disproportionately impact seniors, people with disabilities, rural voters, low-income Americans, and working families.
"This cynical move is exactly why so many people are fed up with Washington. I remain committed to passing bipartisan legislation through a clean, up-or-down vote to enact this ban and restore confidence in our government."
