The State Corporation Commission has appointed Danny L. Taylor Jr. to be director of its Division of Securities & Retail Franchising, effective June 25, 2026. He succeeds Doug Joyce, who is retiring.
Taylor has been deputy director of the division since 2023. He joined the Commission in 2003, serving as a senior investigator and investigations manager, after stints with the National White Collar Crime Center and the IRS's Criminal Investigation Division.
The SCC's Division of Securities & Retail Franchising is responsible in Virginia for regulating securities, broker-dealers, broker-dealer agents and investment advisers; registering franchises and trademarks; performing audits and conducting investigations of alleged misconduct or violations of the Code of Virginia; and managing an outreach program to promote investor and franchising education.
"I am honored to be selected by the Commission to serve as director of the Division of Securities & Retail Franchising," Taylor said. "I have devoted my career to serving the Commonwealth and maintaining the integrity of its securities and franchising industries. I look forward to continuing to do so in this new role."
Taylor is an active member of the North American Securities Administrators Association and a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Committee of the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts. He earned a bachelor's in political science with an emphasis in prelaw with minors in philosophy and the administration of justice from Virginia Commonwealth University.
In his spare time, Taylor enjoys fishing, spending time with his two grown sons and gardening with his wife.
