New Permanent Representative of Belgium presents credentials

VIENNA, 4 September (UN Information Service) - The new Permanent Representative of Belgium to the United Nations (Vienna), Christophe de Bassompierre, presented his credentials today to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Monica Juma.

During his career Mr. de Bassompierre has served in various capacities, among them:

Director, External Relations of the European Union, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2022-present); Ambassador to Tunisia and Libya (2019-2022); Advisor for international organizations, human rights and Middle East, Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2016-2019); Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy in Tokyo (2012-2016); First Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations, New York (2009-2012); Security Council team, United Nations Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2006-2009); First Secretary, Embassy in Beirut (2003-2006); and Embassy Secretary, Embassy in Athens (1999-2003).

Mr. de Bassompierre holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Boston and a Master (Licence) in Law from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve. He has a bachelor's degree in law and economics from the Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis, Brussels.

Mr. de Bassompierre speaks Dutch, English, French and Spanish.
