The Port of San Diego is celebrating yet another win. For the fourth consecutive year, the Port has earned Platinum-tier recognition in the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) annual Diamond Awards. The Diamond Awards honor employers that go the extra mile to support and encourage sustainable commuting. The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, September 17 at the SANDAG Boardroom in downtown San Diego.
SANDAG's Employer Commuter Program offers free transportation planning assistance to help organizations reduce solo driving and improve air quality across the region. Platinum is the program's highest honor - and the Port is proud to be among this year's top achievers.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from SANDAG for the fourth consecutive year," said Chair Danielle Moore, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners. "The Port is committed to leading by example in environmental stewardship. Encouraging clean and sustainable commuting for our employees is just one of the many ways we are reducing emissions and protecting San Diego Bay and the communities that surround it."
The Port's commuter program continues to evolve and expand. It includes:
Through its reimbursement program, the Port covers all out-of-pocket costs for employees who choose greener options like carpooling, vanpooling or public transit - including monthly bus, trolley and train passes.
These efforts support the Port's clean air goals and help advance the Maritime Clean Air Strategy (MCAS) - an aspirational planning document identifying projects and initiatives to improve environmental and public health through cleaner air for all who live, work, and play on and around San Diego Bay while also supporting efficient and modern maritime operations projects and initiatives to improve environmental and public health through cleaner air for all who live, work, and play on and around San Diego Bay while also supporting efficient and modern maritime operations.
The 2025 award comes during Green Port Month, the Port's annual celebration of its environmental milestones and forward-looking sustainability efforts.
