SAN DIEGO - On Oct. 22, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Calexico Port of Entry Commercial Facility seized more than 886 pounds of liquid methamphetamine concealed in a vehicle fuel tank.

A U.S. citizen driving an empty 2016 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer applied for entry into the United States was referred to secondary inspection.

During the inspection, officers observed discoloration in the vehicle's fuel tank. A sample of the liquid tested positive for methamphetamine.

"This seizure demonstrates the commitment of our CBP officers at the Calexico Commercial Facility," said San Diego Director of Field Operations Sidney K. Aki. "Through the coordinated efforts of our intelligence teams and frontline officers, CBP intercepted more than 886 pounds of methamphetamine, before it could reach our communities."

CBP officers removed and seized 22 five-gallon buckets containing the liquid substance from the fuel tank.
