Norway Joins the Pax Silica Initiative

Norway is joining the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative, which aims to strengthen cooperation on securing robust and reliable supply chains for emerging technologies.

"It is important for Norway to cooperate with the United States and other global leaders in new AI technologies. One of the government's main priorities is to help ensure that Norwegian industry and businesses have good market access, and this initiative may provide Norwegian companies with better access to advanced technological value chains," says Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth.

The U.S.-led initiative was launched in 2025 and aims to build secure supply chains for artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and critical raw materials. It also seeks to promote innovation and protect sensitive technologies.

Norway's accession to Pax Silica aims to strengthen international cooperation on technology and economic security, and contribute to closer political dialogue on shared interests.

"The initiative gives Norway an opportunity to strengthen value creation and economic security together with the other participating countries, and through international cooperation, Norway's security is also enhanced," says Minister Myrseth.

Pax Silica is intended to foster closer cooperation among countries with complementary expertise and resources. Fourteen countries have now joined the initiative: Australia, the Philippines, Finland, India, Israel, Japan, Norway, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Norway's ambassador to the United States, Anniken Huitfeldt, will sign the initiative on Wednesday, 6 May.

Other important initiatives launched by the Norwegian government to strengthen Norway's ties with key partners in areas such as critical minerals and technology include the incorporation of the EU Critical Raw Materials Act and the European Chips Act.
