WASHINGTON, D.C.-Tonight, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted to pass the Senate amendment to H.R. 5371, ending the longest government shutdown in American history and restoring stability for federal workers, families, and small businesses across the country.
"For weeks, Democrats refused to do their jobs and left 750,000 Americans without paychecks, troops and TSA agents working without pay, and families uncertain about their SNAP benefits," said Congressman Harrigan. "Republicans worked around the clock to stop this shutdown before it started and fought every day to end it once it began. This vote finally brings relief to hardworking Americans who were caught in the middle of a political standoff they never asked for. It gets people paid, keeps our economy moving, and protects programs families rely on. Now that we've broken the gridlock, it's time to get back to work and keep delivering for the people who sent us here."
Key Provisions of the Legislation:
The legislation now heads to President Trump's desk for swift signature so that paychecks can resume, benefits can flow, and federal agencies can fully reopen. Once enacted, Congress will return to its core mission-delivering results for the American people and restoring faith that Washington can still get things done.
