Training for the Frontline: EUMAM UA ST-C’s Mission to Strengthen Ukraine

A defining characteristic of MN ST-C's work was its close operational feedback loop with Ukrainian soldiers. First-hand insights into battlefield conditions directly informed training design and execution. This allowed rapid adjustment of training priorities, particularly in areas such as the employment of unmanned aerial systems, tactical procedures, and the maintenance and sustainment of equipment under combat conditions. Training was consistently planned and executed in line with the principle of being "tailored to the mission".

Since the establishment of the mission in mid-2022, around 26,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in Germany under MN ST-C coordination. Training activities took place at over 50 military and industrial training locations nationwide, reflecting the broad and modular structure of the training portfolio.

The range of training covered core military skills across all domains, including land warfare, marksmanship, tactical planning, medical support, CBRN defence, demining, logistics and communications. In addition, specialised and industrial training formats as well as staff-level training strengthened leadership, command-and-control capabilities and operational planning skills. All branches of the German Armed Forces contributed personnel and expertise, supported by highly motivated multinational instructors.

MN ST-C itself continued to operate as a multinational headquarters. Of approximately 100 posts, around one third are filled by personnel from 13 partner nations, underlining the collective European commitment to supporting Ukraine. Training activities continued throughout the year, including during the holiday period, albeit in a reduced operational mode.

Overall, MN ST-C demonstrated MN its ability to deliver flexible, robust and operationally relevant training in support of Ukraine, while continuously adapting to a dynamic security environment.
