As the desert begins its slow turn toward cooler evenings and our favorite season for being outdoors, Desert Recreation District (DRD) will conduct annual reseeding at Cathedral City park locations to ensure our green spaces are lush and ready for the months ahead.
This seasonal maintenance gives the grass the refresh it needs after a hot summer, allowing it to come back vibrant and ready for every picnic, soccer match, and leisurely stroll.
The following parks will be closed for reseeding:
Amphitheater rentals: The Cathedral City Community Amphitheater lawn will also be closed throughout October for reseeding and will not be available for rentals during that time. Groups planning fall events should book around the October window; details on booking are available on the venue's private events page.
Halloween plans are safe: The PACE Halloween Dog Costume Contest at Panorama Park will not be affected by the closure. Panorama reopens October 21, well ahead of the event.
Alternative options for dog owners: While Panorama Dog Park is closed, Esperanza Dog Park remains open until its own closure begins October 12.
Reseeding adds grass seed to the existing lawn without turning the soil. The result is richer color, thicker turf, and hardier grass varieties that can stand up to heavy use through the peak outdoor season. Keeping the parks closed during the germination window is what allows the new grass to take root.
Signage will be posted at all locations to notify park users of closure dates.
Thank you for your patience while our parks receive their seasonal care. When the gates reopen, you'll be greeted with fresh, green fields ready for everything from morning walks to weekend games.
